This has a really nice balsamic edge to the nose, bordering on eucalyptus with some smoky oak top notes over creamy raspberry fruit that shows some pomegranate spice. Soft and a little low acid in the mouth, this does deliver a nice array of varietal flavors, bramble, blackberry and spice. This has a nice black cherry follow through but the finish fades away and the wine is just a little too ponderous. A bit sticky and extracted on the finish as well. 84pts

Wood notes, blackberry, and pepper. Smooth attack with nice umami feeling in the midpalate, some other fruit flavors like strawberry and cherry come out towards the finish, with some minerality.

This must sit a bit before tasting and make sure to chill - Beautiful black cherry and spice nose - A bit on the spicy side and seems like a high alcohol content - worth $15, not really sure - bought it by mistake thinking it was their cab (which I love) so I guess I was a tad disappointed but not totally - needs a little more age -

I think this is a very accessible and enjoyable zin. It's a little on the lighter side with fresh, jammy flavors. It pairs better with more foods than most zins. I think this is a great, guilt-free wine.

Winemaker's Notes:"Sourcing from both the Sonoma and San Joaquin appellations allows the Ghost Pines winemaker to blend a wine which accentuates the best of what each region has to offer. Sonoma County Zinfandel offers lush fruit, with savory dark spices and concentrated intensity. The San Joaquin County Zinfandel adds jammy red raspberry and strawberry flavors along with a strong, rich structure. The result is our 2008 Ghost Pines Zinfandel, opening with bright flavors of strawberry jam and ripe plum, and aromas of vanilla bean and mocha. Full and balanced, our Zinfandel boasts rich, chewy tannins that lead to a long and supple finish."
