What to Expect

Cabenet Sauvignon: Originally of French origins, this versatile grape produces exceptional wines around the globe. It's usually medium to full bodied with a fine structure that supports black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity.

Winemakers Notes

90 points from Robert Parker: `One of the finest bargains in California Cabernet Sauvignon must be Louis M. Martini's outstanding 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma. The good news is there are 140000 cases produced. Fabulously sweet aromas of black currants licorice and cedar soar from the glass of this medium to full-bodied wine. With silky tannins as well as surprising concentration depth and texture this 2006 should drink well for 8-10 years.`

Reviews

Serious Cabernet for the price. The only reason I didn't rate this deeply colored, opaque wine any higher is that the aromas came across as very muted and inexpressive in two separate tastings over about a six month period - unlike the smokey dark currant and cherry flavors, which were ripe, full, and varietally right-on. Despite its modest price, this somewhat tannic and classically structured wine may be several years from its peak, and if its aromas open up, I will have under-rated it. It's not clear how Martini did it for this price, but I'm all for it.

Agree with the "black currants and licorice" description; very fruity overall for a Cab, which was nice; no chocolate/tobacco/woodsy flavors here. Would be a nice Cab for lighter or mixed fare instead of steak.

It was just okay for me. Nothing offensive but also nothing special. Even at a value price there are others I prefer.
