What to Expect

While Burgundy is renowned as the home of Pinot Noir, it is also the source for the ubiquitous Chardonnay grape. In these gently rolling hills Chardonnay achieves some of its most profound expressions. Appellations such as Meursault, Montrachet, and Corton Charlemagne proudly take their place among the most sought-after in all the world of wine. With a richness and complexity few wines can match, Chardonnay from Burgundy adds classic hints of flinty and chalky soil with nuances tones of nuts, cinnamon, honey and butter to the rich, sometimes unctuous but rarely heavy, ripe orchard fruits that the grapes are capable of providing. White Burgundy can improve in the bottle for decades and is arguably the most age-worthy dry white wine in the world.

Editorial Reviews

Chalk and mineral on the nose with a touch of estery banana peel and a bit of leesiness. The fruit here is bright and clean and firmly in the spicy apple and lime and of the register. In the mouth this is focused and sleek with a richness of flavor but not the weight of many wines. The acids are bright, if modest yet balanced and the midpalate is clean and refreshing with wonderfully bright, floral and vanilla accented apple tones. There’s a streak of vanilla that runs through this but it’s really well integrated and a simple accent note to the fruit flavors. 87pts

Reviews

Bright aromas with a fungal funkiness and some baked pears mashed in. Medium thick mouthfeel, with medium acidity, light fruit and more than a touch of oak. The finish kind of drops off, lingering mostly with the oak flavors.

Tight nose of apple and pears. Zesty and round in the mouth gentle melon notes, Finish is light and doughy.

Ripe, supple and of medium body, this classic expression of Pouilly-Fuisseacute; shows vibrant Chardonnay fruit flavors with notes of melon and minerals, gently touched with oak, ending in a fresh, silky finish.

Pouilly-Fuisse is the name of a village in the Maconnais producing highly distinctive Chardonnay wine. The vineyards producing this wine are part of a breath-taking landscape where the limestone and heavy clay soils combine to create a unique terroir. The wine shows a green-gold color, and delicate aromas on the nose that are disarmingly seductive. On the palate there is a round and full herbal fruitiness that complements the crisp acidity leading to a satisfying finish.
