User Reviews for Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet
Add your reviewWinemaker's Notes:
Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. He quickly developed a reputation as a high quality producer and his aim was to build his reputation as a top quality winemaker in Burgundy. To achieve this aim he continued to purchase vineyards to add to the family's earlier purchase of Beaune Clos des Ursules and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles vineyards. His Grandson, who took over at the end of WWII continued to build Louis Jadot's Domaine holdings by acquiring Grand Cru vineyards in Corton Pougets and Corton Charlemagne. Puligny-Montrachet, situated to the south of Meursault and to the north of Chassagne-Montrachet, shares with Chassagne a handful of the greatest white wine vineyards in the world. The stoney clay and chalk soil, drains well and warms through easily. Chardonnay is the only grape variety used for the white wines. The wines of Puligny Montrachet are generally characterised by greater firmness and depth than those of Meursault, and by greater refinement and delicacy than those of Chassagne. They are characterised by very distinctive aromas : almond, fern, exotic fruit, amber and white flowers. The acidity in the mouth is rather subtle and these wines can be kept between 8 and 12 years. The Louis Jadot Puligny Montrachet is destined to honour Haute Cuisine such as wonderful shellfish cooked in bouillon, creamed and poached fish, poultry liver pâtés. For dessert pair with very strong-smelling cheeses such as Munster and mature Comté.
