Louis Jadot Pouilly Fuisse 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Oaky on the nose, but lightly so with caramel and cedary overtones to the rather earthy core of fruit. Lovely mouthfeel, elegant if powerful with excellent depth but no extra fat to weigh this down. Nice bitter almond core on entry is followed by acidity that is bright, lending this a crisp orchard fruit quality in the mouth that turns ripe and almost peachy on the back end. Excellent oak integration, though on the long finish it plays a prominent role, contributing layers of flavor as well as some tannin. Very young but already showing great potential. 93pts

Maison Louis Jadot is a winery that’s proud of its heritage and land. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Jadot expanded rapidly, taking northern Europe by storm. When his son, Louis Jean Baptiste, took over in 1900, more change took place, and many vineyards were acquired, including Corton Charlemagne and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles. With the help of Rudy Kopf, founder of the Kobrand Corporation, Maison Jadot expanded even further, setting up shop in both England and the U.S. In 1985, Madame Jadot sold the company to Rudy Kopf’s family, ensuring a successful future for the company. The land is very important to Maison Louis Jadot, and making the terroir shine through is always a priority. Maison Jadot identifies with its Burgundy heritage, and all wines are Appellation Contrôlée. The winery controls about 380 acres of land in Burgundy, including Côte d'Or, Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Jacques Lardière, winemaster, works with Christine, Guillaume, and Audrey to ensure that the single-variety wines produced, including Pinot Noir for reds, Chardonnay for whites, and Gamay for Beaujolais, always produce the best, most consistent wines. The reliable Louis Jadot negotiant (wholesaler) makes a wonderful generic Pouilly-Fuisse with a garden flower scent (white Wisteria) and a slightly oaky, oily licorice flavour on the palate. Finish is long and satisfying. A fine wine for the price and very Macon. 90 points.

Green apples and pineapple on the nose. Good acidity. Oak stands tall on the finish. Not especially impressed considering the price point.

Although this was the release from the past year, it still had the consistency I have always respected from this very fine French wine.

Light, grassy. Good finish. Tart back end. I taste "green" (240 views) Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 9/22/2012 & rated 92 points: Slightly light in color for a burgundy, with powerful aromas of green apple, peach, citrus, lemon peel. Quite elegant and much better than expected. The finish was long yet simple, with grace. Dinner @ John & Tiffany's, note recorded a week late. (548 views) Tasted by hoservin on 8/25/2012 & rated 89 points: Green apple, floral, citrus, and vanilla aromas. Apple, citrus, and buttery notes on the palate lead to a medium length, crisp finish. Well balanced. Paired with marinated, grilled chicken. (763 views) Tasted by tantotinto on 7/7/2012 & rated 88 points: Tight nose. Flint, smoke, lemon and apple flavours. Tart finish. Good and a good value. (1309 views) Tasted by Anonymous on 5/10/2012: Tasting at Domaine Chandon de Briailles and Maison Jadot (Savigny-lès-Beaune and Beaune): Aromas jump from the glass, crisp, minerally, medium finish. Very nice if not special (1549 views) Tasted by cartime on 4/9/2012 & rated 90 points: Very nicely balanced and drinking great right now. A great value and a perfect mid-week food wine. Lemon, green apple, and stony minerals with terrific acidity. As an aside, I've been really impressed with 2010 Macon. I'm hoping the vintage character carries over into the Cote d'Or. Not as ripe and blowsy as many 2009's, but not as austere and much more approachable at this stage than the 2008's were. Just a fantastic balance of fruit and acidity. (1789 views) Tasted by BSZach1 on 1/22/2012 & rated 89 points: Excellent wine - nice mix of fruit and minerals. (1921 views)

A full-bodied, complex Chardonnay, boasting peach, apple and mineral flavors accented by a touch of oak. Has a fine structure and is well-integrated, ending with a long, juicy aftertaste. Drink now through 2012.

There's some oak masking the fruit now, but plenty of wine underneath. Apple, honey and spice flavors linger and it's well-balanced. Drink now through 2009.
