External Reviews for Louis Jadot Pinot Noir Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Marsannay is the northernmost commune of the Côte d'Or, lying just three miles north of Gevrey-Chambertin and one mile north of Fixin. Vineyards once proliferated in this area, and in the early 1700s the wines of Marsannay commanded prices equal to those of Gevrey. But as the city of Dijon grew, vineyards were uprooted by urban development. As the vineyards disappeared, production slowly evaporated along with growers' profits. The vision of Joseph Clair Daü provided the turning point for Marsannay. Convinced that Marsannay's only future lay in replanting vineyards with Pinot Noir and after a half century of persistent, unified effort devoted by the growers of Marsannay to the elevation of the quality of their vineyards and wines, the I.N.A.O. granted Marsannay its own A.O.C. appellation in spring of 1987. It became the first new village to be given its own appellation since 1936. In 1985 Domaine Louis Jadot purchased 19 acres in Marsannay from the Domaine Clair Daü. This red from the outstanding 2005 vintage resemble a delicate, but distinctive Gevrey-Chambertin. Aged in oak barrels for 15 months, it shows a deep color with a subtle bouquet reminiscent of blackberries, plums and blackcurrants and is very supple on the palate. An incredible value alternative to Gevrey-Chambertin. Wine Advocate Vintage Rating: 98not sponsored by or affiliated with The Wine Spectator or The Wine Advocate
