Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin Estournelles St. Jacques 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"In 2011, choosing a favorite from these glorious Gevrey premier crus at Louis Jadot is going to be very difficult, as they are all exceptional. The 2011 Estournelles has no difficulties keeping the pace of the fine Lavaux and Petite Chapelle, offering up a lovely aromatic mélange of red and black cherries, grilled meat, espresso, herb tones, a fine base of dark soil nuances, woodsmoke and new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very suave on the attack, with a fine core of fruit, ripe tannins, very good grip and focus and a long, youthful and beautifully delineated finish....92+" JG 01/13

Maison Louis Jadot is a winery that’s proud of its heritage and land. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Jadot expanded rapidly, taking northern Europe by storm. When his son, Louis Jean Baptiste, took over in 1900, more change took place, and many vineyards were acquired, including Corton Charlemagne and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles. With the help of Rudy Kopf, founder of the Kobrand Corporation, Maison Jadot expanded even further, setting up shop in both England and the U.S. In 1985, Madame Jadot sold the company to Rudy Kopf’s family, ensuring a successful future for the company. The land is very important to Maison Louis Jadot, and making the terroir shine through is always a priority. Maison Jadot identifies with its Burgundy heritage, and all wines are Appellation Contrôlée. The winery controls about 380 acres of land in Burgundy, including Côte d'Or, Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Jacques Lardière, winemaster, works with Christine, Guillaume, and Audrey to ensure that the single-variety wines produced, including Pinot Noir for reds, Chardonnay for whites, and Gamay for Beaujolais, always produce the best, most consistent wines. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Medium bright red. Aromas of red fruits sweet vanillin oak and spun sugar. Smooth ripe and classically dry on the palate with lovely inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of cherry raspberry and white pepper. Finishes with spicy wood tannins and excellent length. 91+ Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Medium red. Aromas of plum redcurrant mocha and chocolatey oak. Fresh and lively in the mouth with stony mineral energy giving the wine a light touch. Really wonderfully detailed wine with vibrant red fruit and rose petal elements that reminded me of a Rousseau wine. An excellent example from very shallow soil over stones. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
