Food Pairings for Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques Premiere Cru
Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. He quickly developed a reputation as a high quality producer and his aim was to build his reputation as a top quality winemaker in Burgundy. To achieve this aim he continued to purchase vineyards to add to the family's earlier purchase of Beaune Clos des Ursules and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles vineyards. His Grandson, who took over at the end of WWII continued to build Louis Jadot's Domaine holdings by acquiring Grand Cru vineyards in Corton Pougets and Corton Charlemagne. Gevrey-Chambertin is located to the North of Côte de Nuits. It possesses 26 premiers crus and 8 grands crus. Half of the Premiers Crus surrounds the grands Crus (near Morey Saint-denis). The other half is located to the North in the "Combe" de Lavaux on a calcareous and clayish soil with quite a great deal of marls. There are only five owners of this prestigious Clos, which may have deserved the Grand Cru Appellation when the first official classification was decided. The Louis Jadot Clos Saint Jacques really comes from a very original place giving a particular complexity to the Pinot Noir grape. The Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques is a full-bodied and complex wine. It shows a broad palet of aromas, both powerful and elegant, with an impressive length in the mouth. It will perfectly match game, meat in sauce, mushrooms and strong cheese. This wine is really able to keep many years, 10 and more according to the vintages and the storage conditions. In great vintages, it will be able to age more than 40 years !
