What to Expect

While Burgundy is renowned as the home of Pinot Noir, it is also the source for the ubiquitous Chardonnay grape. In these gently rolling hills Chardonnay achieves some of its most profound expressions. Appellations such as Meursault, Montrachet, and Corton Charlemagne proudly take their place among the most sought-after in all the world of wine. With a richness and complexity few wines can match, Chardonnay from Burgundy adds classic hints of flinty and chalky soil with nuances tones of nuts, cinnamon, honey and butter to the rich, sometimes unctuous but rarely heavy, ripe orchard fruits that the grapes are capable of providing. White Burgundy can improve in the bottle for decades and is arguably the most age-worthy dry white wine in the world.

Winemakers Notes

"Louis Jadot pride themselves on the weight and class of their CortonCharlemagne. The 2006 is exceptionally opulent, with the delicious aromatics ofripe chardonnay fruit underpinned by the classic minerality of this grand cru.Approachable early but with power to age." (Jasper Morris MW, BBR Buyer)

This complex, firmly structured white Burgundy balances full body and elegance in a layered palette of pears, citrus and vanilla offset by a flintiness and a suggestion of cinnamon spice in the bouquet and extended finish. Good bright, pale yellow. Captivating nose combines a saline oyster shell quality with menthol, wet stone and violet. Dense and sweet in the mouth, with superb intensity, cut and purity to the flavors of underripe pineapple, wet stone and white flowers. Perhaps best today on the stony, pure, very long finish. This very backward and penetrating wine calls for at least five read more...

The commune of Aloxe-Corton, located above Pernand-Vergelesses at the northern end of the Cote de Beaune, has the unusual distinction of having over half its area covered in grand cru vineyards. These occupy 298 acres divided among 19 climats which take the Corton grand cru appellation for red wines; five among these, totalling 120 acres, take the Corton-Charlemagne grand cru appellation for white wines as well as the Corton grand cru appellation for red wines. Aloxe-Corton's remaining 294 acres include nine premiers crus, covering 72 acres, and 222 acres ranked for village wines. read more...
