Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2011 Jadot Clos Vougeot is absolutely stellar. The very deep and vibrant nose wafts from the glass in a blaze of red and black cherries, venison, espresso, bonfires, beautifully complex minerality, herb tones and a judicious base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and properly reserved in personality, with a rock solid core, ripe, well integrated tannins and superb length and grip on the very energetic and classy finish. This too could very well be a match for the outstanding 2010 version here!...94" JG 01/13

Maison Louis Jadot is a winery that’s proud of its heritage and land. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Jadot expanded rapidly, taking northern Europe by storm. When his son, Louis Jean Baptiste, took over in 1900, more change took place, and many vineyards were acquired, including Corton Charlemagne and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles. With the help of Rudy Kopf, founder of the Kobrand Corporation, Maison Jadot expanded even further, setting up shop in both England and the U.S. In 1985, Madame Jadot sold the company to Rudy Kopf’s family, ensuring a successful future for the company. The land is very important to Maison Louis Jadot, and making the terroir shine through is always a priority. Maison Jadot identifies with its Burgundy heritage, and all wines are Appellation Contrôlée. The winery controls about 380 acres of land in Burgundy, including Côte d'Or, Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Jacques Lardière, winemaster, works with Christine, Guillaume, and Audrey to ensure that the single-variety wines produced, including Pinot Noir for reds, Chardonnay for whites, and Gamay for Beaujolais, always produce the best, most consistent wines. Good medium red. Raspberry redcurrant and strong spicy oak on the nose. Densely packed but a bit youthfully rough today with raspberry and spicy oak flavors framed by sound acidity and substantial dusty tannins. Plenty of breadth and energy here but this grand cru will need at least a couple more years to harmonize in bottle. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

A very toasty nose evidences a hint of tar on the mentholated nose both red and dark berry fruit and pungent earth aromas. There is good volume to the unusually supple suave and smooth middle weight flavors that possess an opulent mouth feel as there is a plenitude of palate coating dry extract. There is a touch of warmth on the moderately austere notably firm robust and powerful finish that isn t especially refined but it is impressively persistent. Burghound.

The 2011 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a fragrant well-defined bouquet with pure fresh strawberry Morello cherry and citrus aromas. The palate is well-balanced with a fine grip good weight more comes across more masculine than the nose suggests but with a firm confident finish. Good aging potential here. Drink 2015-2030. - Neal Martin Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
