Louis Jadot Chapelle Chambertin 2015

External Review:

Bright full medium red. Knockout nose shows an almost candied character to the aromas of strawberry cherry dark berries lavender menthol and Indian spices. Dense suave and juicy with a distinctly silky texture to the broad flavors of red fruits menthol and spices. Utterly seamless suave classically dry Chapelle with outstanding energy and definition. Still tight today but the wine s fine-grained tannins and superb breadth and length suggest that it will make a great bottle a decade hence. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Maison Louis Jadot is a winery that’s proud of its heritage and land. Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Jadot expanded rapidly, taking northern Europe by storm. When his son, Louis Jean Baptiste, took over in 1900, more change took place, and many vineyards were acquired, including Corton Charlemagne and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles. With the help of Rudy Kopf, founder of the Kobrand Corporation, Maison Jadot expanded even further, setting up shop in both England and the U.S. In 1985, Madame Jadot sold the company to Rudy Kopf’s family, ensuring a successful future for the company. The land is very important to Maison Louis Jadot, and making the terroir shine through is always a priority. Maison Jadot identifies with its Burgundy heritage, and all wines are Appellation Contrôlée. The winery controls about 380 acres of land in Burgundy, including Côte d'Or, Mâconnais and Beaujolais. Jacques Lardière, winemaster, works with Christine, Guillaume, and Audrey to ensure that the single-variety wines produced, including Pinot Noir for reds, Chardonnay for whites, and Gamay for Beaujolais, always produce the best, most consistent wines. This is also sufficiently reduced that it is hard to read the nose but it would appear that the underlying fruit is notably ripe. There is an elegant mouth feel to the mineral-driven and admirably pure medium-bodied flavors that possess outstanding depth and length and the very firmly structured finish. This is a beautiful effort but note that it would best be purchased only by the very patient. Burghound.

A brooding yet knockout nose of superb spiciness, earth and very ripe plum notes gives way to soft, forward, mouth coating and impressively structured and concentrated flavors that offer plenty of depth and length. This is an extremely serious Chapelle that culminates in a marvelously explosive backend. In a word, terrific.

Dee p ruby-red. Musky, highly nuanced aromas of wild black raspberry, game, leather and coffee. Wonderfully creamy and deep, with a penetrating character and strong minerality that reinforces the impression of firmness. Wonderfully resounding finish ... Stephen Tanzers IWC. Produced from 85 year old vines, Jadot s 2002 Chapelle-Chambertin is the finest example of this vineyard I ve ever put to my lips. Its awesome aromatics reveal coconut, vanilla, super-ripe blackberries, licorice, and cherries. On the palate, this stunning wine is extraordinarily expansive, conquering the taster with wave after wave of viscous (yet fresh and juicy) black fruits. Medium to full-bodied and seamless, this harmonious, chewy-textured gem lingers on the palate for over a minute. It has power, grace, muscle, and elegance. What more can you ask for? Projected maturity: 2008-2020.
