Notes: Whoa, I am writing my tasting notes one day after doing the video, and now we have a very different wine here … considerably more open. Upon first opening this wine I got classic cassis, but today the nose is almost pure blackberry jam with just a few chocolaty raspberries underneath. Beautiful and piercing. The palate is rich and long, showing more cherry fruit and, again, chocolate. The finish is broad and expansive (with deep, dark chocolate tannins), but it ought to be: After all, this wine has been open for a day now. Yummy stuff worthy of a long decant and plenty of cellaring. Cameron Confidential: This wine is sourced directly from a $58 per bottle program in Alexander Valley. The vineyard was planted in the early '70s and has never been replanted. New owners bought it along with other vineyards in Mendocino in the early '90s and spent a lot of time fixing up the vineyards to their true potential.
