Lot 104 Stellenbosch Meritage 2006
Notes: Dark wine, purple black. Gorgeous, intense nose of scorched earth, currants, cassis, and plums. There is a high-toned, violet-like flowery component, backed up with vanilla and spice. Super-smooth and imminently drinkable on the palate (18 months of barrel time). Cameron Confidential: This wine comes to us from a world-renowned and most consistently high-scoring Stellenbosch producer who blends a classic Bordeaux Meritage with five varietals and sells it for $60 – $90 a bottle here in the US. We were able to buy a substantial portion in left-over barrel lots but with only 3 of the 5 varietals. Who cares if we are missing a varietal or two? I stand by this wine as one of the best Stellenbosch Cabernet blends available on the market today, at any price.
Screaming QPR. Tastes like a $30 Cali meritage. Lots of smoke and cassis. The PV really gives this a dark element. I love PV so this rocks my world. The craftsmanship is superb. This is a burger wine folks and really demands a nice hunk of chuck.
This is one of the best yet. It is one me my favs. Big flavors. Love the blend. Wine coming out of the Stellenbosch have really been stellar. Don't miss this one. Such a great value at $12 bucks. Worth $30 or more in quality.
