Lost Canyon Syrah Sonoma Coast Stage Gulch Vineyard 2004

Member Review by Agent Red:

This is an easy-drinking, juicy, lush wine that encouraged me to take BIG mouthfuls rather than sips. The only problem I had with this wine was that I ran out when all I wanted was more. It went brilliantly with BBQ'd top sirloin with Agent White's famous bleu-cheese-creamy-mushroom sauce. Recommended!

Lost Canyon Winery’s focus is on producing small lots of single vineyard designated Pinot Noir and Syrah from some of the finest vineyards in the Russian River, Sonoma Coast, and Los Carneros appellations. Lost Canyon has nurtured a passion for crafting the finest quality wine since 1978 with Randy Keyworth and Jack States’ inaugural vintage. Lost Canyon's premier commercial release was unveiled in 2001 when Bob Riskin joined the ownership team. Now under the stewardship of the Fritz Family, Lost Canyon continues the tradition of fine winemaking, garnering many awards and accolades along the way. Our commitment is to making cool climate, “vineyard designated” Pinot Noir and Syrah. Each of our ultra-premium wines reflects the unique terroir of the individual vineyard and grower’s philosophy. We have partnered with some of the best growers in Sonoma County including Saralee Kunde and the Dutton Family to create these exceptional wines. Maintaining a small production size (under 2,500 cases) is at the core of our philosophy of the complex task of making world-class hand crafted wines. It enables us to respond to their unique timetable, not the reverse. Ultimately, we don't control the grape’s development, but instead we are there to guide and influence the wine to meet its innate potential. Read less

Very full at the front, with great bold and heavy flavors on the palate, but fails to deliver a sufficient finish and completeness that a Syrah at this price point should exhibit. Possible I didn't let it breathe long enough, but didn't show signs of rounding out at the end of the day.

Rich and palate coating. It has an intricate group of flavors from blackberry and leather to tobacco and spice. The wine has complex tannins and crisp acidity. Less than 150 cases produced!
