Food Pairings for Losada Vinos de Finca Bierzo Losado
Following a different viticulture route from the normal in DO Bierzo, which seeks out shale slopes, we’ve found that the skins of Mencía from old vines on clay soils make finer, softer structured wines. Acidity, the backbone of these wines, provides the subtlety and elegance which are essential characteristics for us. Losada 2008 was made with Mencía grapes sourced from different areas in Bierzo, which have combined to produce a very complex wine that has real individual character. This is an easy-to-enjoy wine to discover the elegance which Losada brings to the new Bierzo.
What is fascinating about such a representative Bierzo is how it reflects the Mencía grape: red raspberries, dusty tannins, tart red fruits, and a floral/herbal note that reminds me of rosehips. Maybe it’s the rosehip bushes that scatter about the vineyards, but this has that note in addition to Bierzo's remarkable conflation of fruit, flowers, and herbs.
