Losada Mencia Bierzo El Pajaro Rojo 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

89 points Luis Gutierrez (Wine Advocate): The 2014 Pájaro Rojo is a young unoaked Mencía from mostly clay soils in the Bierzo valley. They used 5% full clusters and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine rested for a couple of months with the lees before being transferred to oak barrels for a short élevage of around six months. There are aromas of ripe black fruit intermixed with dark spices and some orange peel, giving an overall feeling of ripeness with freshness. The palate shows great intensity of flavors and power with balance. A very good, young and powerful Mencía. Drink: 2016-2017. (Apr 2016)

First impression is that this is fairly tannic with loads of dark fruit, plum, blackberry and leather. Decent acidity and a medium finish.
