Food Pairings for Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Colchagua
Very herbal when I popped the cork but the herbaceousness blew off quickly to reveal balanced fruits, tobacco and oak. Drank well in March of '09 but seemed young still. For $15 this wine will be a great value in 2010
A Lafite for $13?! Only in Chile... Very earthy and less fruity. Was picking up green peppers and very subtle fruit flavors. Interesting wine, maybe another year or two will help it along a bit.
We had this at our wedding and everyone loved it.
I didn't notice a remarkable difference between this, the Reserve and the standard Los Vascos, but for the money, solid bottles of cab from Chile! - Tasted at Lee's Wine Experience 11/7/09

The Grande Réserve - Los Vascos is the product of selection from the vineyard’s finest plots of land. “Grande Réserve” is produced traditionally and aged in French oak barrels, it is characterized by its persistent and complex bouquet. 2006 was a late vintage in Chile in spite of an extremely hot summer but it was followed by cool temperatures during the harvest which permitted a good staggering during the picking for optimum maturities without an explosion of alcoholic degrees. The colour is intense ruby with fine brilliance and orange nuances. The nose explodes with fruit : black cherry and blackcurrant (Cabernet), strawberry (Malbec), raspberry (Syrah), plum light mint and black pepper (Carmenère). The oak doesn’t overpower the fruit contributes delicious aromas of tobacco, cinnamon, and crème brûlée (vanilla, caramel and chocolate). The rich hand creamy taste is fresh and very intense, well structured and finishes with a fruit intensity of raspberries and cherries accompanied by a touch of liquorice and walnut skin. It is very dynamic and still very young. This juicy and luscious wine is delicious to taste now but the tannins still need to mature for a while before it becomes ideal for drinking (2009). On the lines of the 2005, it is currently superb. A wine deliciously Chilean!
