I've about decided that the best way to drink this wine is to open it day ahead of time and start drinking it on day two. Day one is always disappointing - mostly very fungal tasting. But day two, this is a totally different wine, with black and blue berry, black currant, tea, some vegetableness and a nice, aromatic finish.

Good value for the price. this is an easy drinking everyday wine. Malbecs are not usually my favorites but this actually worked well. Wine Enthusiast rated this an 85. "Wine Enthusiast Big, roasted and full, with slightly earthy, burnt aromas to go with standard berry fruit. The palate is solid in feel, with herbal berry and tea flavors along with zesty acidity. Finishes toasty and a little herbal, with any leftover fruit heading quickly to the shadows. Score: 85. —Michael Schachner, August 01, 2010. "

A dark purple wine that is ripe and warm on the nose. A great smooth wine. Very refreshing for a Malbec. Offers stunning hints of raspberry and plum. Roasted butterscotch aftertaste. Delicious.

The blending components of this wine are grapes coming from Dona Paulas vineyards in Finca El Alto in Ugarteche, Luján de Cuyo, and a smaller portion from the high altitude vineyards in Uco Valley. At Doña Paula the vineyards and wines have always been managed using Sustainable Agriculture practices. 100% hand picked grapes are completely destemmed and then partially crushed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tanks, for a period of 10 days and at 22°C with peaks of 28°C. At Doña Paula our vineyards have been managed using Sustainable Agriculture practices The oldest Malbec and Shiraz mass selection in Argentina comes from INTA Alto Valle (Rio Negro), in the Patagonia region and its origin is an old Dijon Selection that was introduced in the late 70s.Vertical shoot positioned, spacing is 2,7m x 2m ; 1852 vines per hectare. Natural crop of 2,5 tn/acre.Harvested by hand during the first week of march, the bunches are carefully transferred to the winery in 1,100 lbs. bins. Gently destemmed and cold macerated during 3 to 4 weeks. Yeasted on stainless steel tanks, 100% of the must is racked into new 100% French oak barrels.Kept in new french barrels for 10 to 12 months, where the wine is aged before being bottled Vintage: 2008 Region: Ugarteche, Lujan de Cuyo Varietals: ...

Finca El Alto is the largest single vineyard malbec planted in Luján de Cuyo region with 197 hectares (487 acres) planted between 1969 and .Most of the production is coming from adult vineyards trellised in double spur pruned cordon at medium to high vines density (1852 to 3636 vines per hectare).Clay soils perform good structure in the wines and this is the aim of this Estate malbec: richness, elegance, balance and bright fresh fruits aromas, all of them, capable to express the Upper Mendoza rivers sense of place. At Doña Paula the vineyards and wines have always been managed using Sustainable Agriculture practices.Carefully and gentle desteming with partial berries crushing with the purpose to provide fresh berry aromas.Cool pre-fermentation maceration for 2 weeks to extract primary aromas, flavours and intense colour under non-alcoholic phase.First part of the fermentation takes place under wild yeast culture and is finished inoculating selected yeast.Fermented at 25°C, keeping the freshness the wine is after racked to new, second and third use French barrels (33% of each one) where the wine is aged during 8 months before being bottled. The blending components of this wine are grapes coming from Dona Paulas vineyards in Finca El Alto in Ugarteche, Luján de Cuyo, and a smaller portion from the high altitude vineyards in Uco Valley. In terms of clonal material, Dona Paula prefer the extraordinarily adapted mass selection to the highly producing imported French "Cot" clones. Double spur pruned cordon with 2 shoots per spur and an average of three clusters per bunch provide a regular yield of 9 to 10 tones per hectare. At Doña Paula the vineyards and wines have always been managed using Sustainable Agriculture practices. 100% hand picked grapes are completely destemmed and then partially crushed. As a consequence, some berries remain untouched providing carbonic maceration character to the wine. Must is cooled immediately after crushing in order to maintain flavours and aromas, by reducing the level of SO2 needed. Carbon dioxide gas is dispersed over the must to prevent oxygen from being into...

Always a solid value, this Los Cardos Malbec from Dona Paula is a fresh, fruit-forward expression of Argentine Malbec. Grapes are sourced from high altitude vineyards in the Uco Valley and the Lujan de Cuyo. The grapes are de-stemmed and cold soaked to preserve the primary aromas. Extended maceration adds to the texture and rounds out the tannins. It shows big aromas of berry fruit and roasted nuts. The palate is firm but zesty with with bright berry, black tea and mineral flavors. A hint of toast comes up on the lingering finish. Best Buy Alert!
