Loredona Viognier Lodi 2011

Member Review by rcollins0618:

I'm an easy pleaser. The aroma is reminiscent of a mix of rubber and cork with flowers rubbed all over it. The floral notes of the aroma are so light, it's almost undetectable until I stick my nose in it for a while. Whatever, the combo works and I am impressed. AS FOR THE TASTE... right, the important part. It's one of those wines that immediately I was rather unimpressed with, but ended up growing on me a little. Well, a tiny bit. Don't get me wrong, I've definitely had better Viognier (by itself). In fact, it doesn't quite seem very balanced to me at all. The taste somewhat matches the aroma, but it's just not as pleasent. The finish is a bit long, and slightly unpleasant. It leaves me wanting... something else. It's not too sweet, but I believe this wine would do much better if it had less residual sugars. Do they make a drier version? Oh well, it's almost worth the money to me, and yes, I'm biased and uneducated with wines.

Whether hailing from Old World Italy or New World California, the one common theme in every world-class wine is its "sense of place." The French term this reflection of locale "terroir", literally "ground or soil." Simply put, it means that the wine's character speaks directly to the place it was grown. Loredona wines are true to this ideal. Crafted from our vineyards located in the best growing regions throughout California, they are a true reflection of the land on which they are grown. Our Riesling and Pinot Grigio embody the sun, wind, fog, and soils of Monterey's San Bernabe Vineyard, and our Viognier captures the warmth and cooling breezes of our Lodi Clay Station Vineyard. As seen in the Baltimore Sun: "This exuberantly fruity, floral white wine is an unusually good value for a viognier. Just slightly off-dry, it offers lively flavors of peaches, apricots, citrus fruits, cherries, minerals and spices. A wine this fresh is best consumed young, though it's not showing any signs of fragility. It's an easy wine to sip on its own, but it would make a great pairing with lobster."

Nice and bright, worked well with our summer grilling, of chickem with apricot, soy, ginger marinate and with our grilled yams and sweet potatoes with same marinate.

I don't typically mind a sweet wine, but this viognier had an unpleasent tangy finish.

Viognier (pronounced "vee-own-yay") is famous around the world for its perfumed aromas and rich body. Our Viognier leaps out of the glass with heady scents of sweet orange, ripe apricot and honeysuckle matched by mouth-watering nectarine, tangerine and citrus notes on the palate. The rich body is balanced with crisp acidity and a hint of minerals on the lengthy finish. - Winery ** Only 6 in Stock **
