Editorial Reviews for Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva Rioja
A minor terpene note on the nose quickly blows off revealing a complex and compelling nose of roast tangerine, mineral, honeycomb, brushfire, and caramel corn, though more corn than caramel. The bright acids wash across the palate and lift the pink grapefruit, pomegranate and ranier cherry tones through to the rich, long finish with it's more citrus, orangy notes. Wonderfully evolved but still amazingly youthful; Drink 2009-2020 93pts
I first had this wine paired with exquisite sushi. After some decanting, this paired like MAGIC. strong berry notes but a mild finish. I've been hooked on riojas since (although much younger ones).

A Tempranillo wine from Rioja in Spain. 1976 Lopez De Heredia Rioja Vina Bosconia Reserva 750ml
Pale-edged red. Multidimensional nose of raspberry, black plum, orange zest, coffee, milk chocolate, game and a superripe whiff of raisin. Uncanny sweetness in the mouth, with a strong spine of acidity framing and intensifying the fruit flavors. Really remarkable acid fruit balance. Big, rich, powerful and deep. Finishes extremely long and magically fresh. Contains about 80% tempranillo, a bit high for Bosconia, which is always higher in tempranillo (and spends less time in barrel) than Tondonia.
The color of this wine is telling that it's had a more than a few years of age. The palate though is stunningly lively with ripe berries, blood orange aromas and an amazing backbone of minerals and tannin. Earthy, sanguine and a wine of utter sophistication.
Wine developed and very balanced. Ruby Colour with shades of orange. Its nose is persistent, full parfum, showing toasted flavours. Its taste is round, smooth, full of persistent aromas.
