Longboard Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Russian River Valley 2007
The 2007 Longboard Sauvignon Blanc fruit comes from two vineyards: 6.0% from the Delamontanya Vineyard and 94.0% from the ONeel Vineyard. The wine displays peach and honeysuckle aromas and delivers a mouthful of fresh, crisp pear and apple flavors. The balanced acidity ensures the wine will match well with a variety of foods ranging from Dungeness Crab cakes to Thai dishes. The grapes for this wine were pressed whole-cluster (without destemming) and fermented at 55F in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness. For added complexity, 5% of the wine was fermented in neutral French Oak barrels and allowed to age in the barrels for two months.
Try balance, harmony and nature for starters. Surfing is part sport, part meditation and all working within, rather than against, nature. Winemaking? Pretty similar approach. Both surfers and winemakers reach the summit of their respective crafts when they attain an understanding of, and a respect for, the environment in which they work (and play). Adapting to their surroundings, they achieve peak performance, on the waves and in the vineyards.
My favorite Blanc! Crisp and fresh.
