Longboard Syrah Mavericks. Signature Series. Russian River Valley 2006

External Review:

Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. Although this bottling teams a bit of peppery spice with dark-berry fruit and bears an unmistakable varietal stamp, it shows a somewhat lighter hand and is still fairly tight and unevolved. Its lean and comparatively racy style may not fit everyone's view of classic Syrah, but we like its balance, its focus and its potential for a few years of growth.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.

Longboard Vineyards:
Try balance, harmony and nature for starters. Surfing is part sport, part meditation and all working within, rather than against, nature. Winemaking? Pretty similar approach. Both surfers and winemakers reach the summit of their respective crafts when they attain an understanding of, and a respect for, the environment in which they work (and play). Adapting to their surroundings, they achieve peak performance, on the waves and in the vineyards.
