This is nicely mineral on the nose with sweet backing tones of ripe pear and dried apple fruit. Showing a touch of sugar in it’s roundness, though coming across as fairly dry due to the firma acids here, this is balanced and rich if not terrible large scaled. The fruit flavors, heirloom orchard fruits with a wash or orange marmalade and some attractive spice tones show excellent depth. There’s a nice mineral element on the back end here that adds tension. The orangy tones brighten with some air and lend an orange blossom top note to the inner mouth perfumes. The finish gains a touch of green plum on the moderate long slightly peppery finish. This really grows on my with it’s subtlety. 91pts

Quite good domestic Riesling. Aromas of seaspray, apples, peaches, and some petrol. Slight spritz on the palate, along with flavors of melon, peach, and apple. Touch off dry, very juicy aftertaste. Fantastic with spicy chicken and eggplant stirfry.

Rating: 91/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. A bit of patience is needed before this very reticent youngster starts to blossom and show what proves to be precise Riesling fruit, but its tantalizing glimpses of fresh pears, green peaches and a certain stony complexity tag it as a very serious wine that is worth any wait. Near-perfect acidity serves as a counterpoint to its modest sugars, and its overall balance is ideal. Its singular sin is that of youth, and it is guaranteed to gain in beauty over the next couple of years.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Graceful and elegant, the andrsquo;09 from Poetandrsquo;s Leap is more focused than in previous vintages. Its aromas are a study in apple and pear, marked by a fine, leesy top note. The flavors attack with citrus and passionfruit and then lengthen into Asian pear, relaxing into creaminess as minerality brings the wine home. A lot of wine for the money. Serve it with sole.

Loaded with grapefruit, citrus and stone flavors, it cleans the palate and piles on the details as it rolls into a finish that lingers for well over a full minute.
