Soft, round and gentle when first poured, this hints at the complexities to come with a lively acidity. Some of those complex aromatics begin to develop with air, a balance of strawberry, oak char and savory herbs. Complete in a lighter style, this should drink well eight to ten years from the vintage.
The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is a deeply colored, big, powerful effort. It shows masses of vibrant sweet dark fruit, smoke, tar and earth flavors with notable concentration one length on the palate. Still quite primary today, it offers outstanding potential, but a few years of patience are required. Anticipated maturity: 2008ndash;2018.
Typical of the vintage, the 1998 Brunello di Montalcino is forward, with a gorgeous perfume of roasted herbs, saddle leather, asphalt, truffles, spice box, and sweet cherry as well as currant fruit. Round, generous, and complex, but extremely accessible and evolved, it will drink well for 7ndash;8 years.
The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino is a big wine but with the shapeliness which always characterizes this producer’s wines. The ripe and ample notes of red fruit leather liquorice and game are followed by the classic smoothness and melting tannins of Sassetti wines continuous and caressing and with a rise in the intensity and sense of solidity on the finish. Deceptively ready it will easily last another dozen years.

Deep red. Ineffable, deep aromas of wild strawberry, blackberry, espresso, underbrush and sweet oak. Densely packed and sweet, with strong minerality contributing to the impression of extract. A big, mouthfilling wine thatandrsquo;s rich and broad but also quite vibrant. Finishes impressively long and bright, with horizontal, very fine tannins.
