Livingston Moffett Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Moffett Vineyard 1996

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

Sleek and elegant, with ripe, supple, polished currant, plum and blackberry flavors. Holds its focus and fruit on a long, elegant finish, with ripe, integrated tannins. Best from 2001 through 2008.

Located on the Napa/Rutherford AVA's at the site of an 1883 winery, the winery began production in 1984 with the release of its estate Moffett Vineyard Cabernet bottling. A second Cabernet, Stanley's Selection, has been produced since 1989 and is a blend of small, select Napa vineyards. More recently the winery has expanded into limited quantities of Chardonnay (Genny's Vineyard), Syrah (Mitchell Vineyard) and a Cabernet-based blend (Gemstone Vineyard). Total production varies between 5,000 and 6,000 cases annually. Consulting winemakers that have overseen production in the past have been Randy Dunn, G. Graham, John Kongsgaard and, presently, Marco DiGiulio. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Shows red plums and black cherries, with cinnamon and herbal-floral nuances on the nose. Good depth of blackberry fruit on the palate, along with tobacco and toasty oak flavors. Full mouthfeel and medium-to-full tannins on the moderately long finish. Should come together well over the next 2 to 4 years.

A dense and rich wine with the trademark Rutherford black cherry fruit shining through. The wine is well balanced, with firm but not harsh tannins backing up the concentrated fruit.

Crisp and tight, with a narrow range of flavors focused around a pretty beam of cherry and plum. Doesnandrsquo;t quite offer the depth and richness of the best, finishing with firm tannins, so cellar it short-term. Best from 2001 through 2009.
