Lisini Rosso di Montalcino 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Benchmark, traditional, & good value Brunello from the ever consistentLisini, built on the back of a famous vintage: full of forest floor notes& brambly spicy, chicory notes. Still a 'bambino' this wine willage for another 10 years at least; best drunk from 2012. One for braisedbeef... (David Berry Green - BBR Buyer)

Lisini The farm covers an area of 154 hectares and is located in the southern part of Montalcino, 8 km from it and 1 km from the hamlet of Sant'Angelo in Colle. The happy position of the vineyards, which stretch for nearly 20 hectares, associated with the great quality of the soil cool and porous Eocene, allow an exceptional quality of the grapes which produce one of the best Brunello di Montalcino. In particular, the vineyards open to ocean currents of the Maremma have a special microclimate, very different from other areas of the town, consisting of reduced rainfall and absence of fog. The average altitude of 350 msl vineyards is optimal for the cultivation of Sangiovese Grosso, the only grape variety used in the Company's vineyards. In the years preceding the boom of Brunello di Montalcino, the Lisini Company was known for the quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil product quality that resulted, and still comes, from the same happy geographical and climatic characteristics that determine the quality of the grapes. If the geographic location and exposure of the vineyards play a primary role in the achievement of quality wine, an equally important role is played by the people who have worked for years with passion and dedication in order to keep its products at the highest levels.  Read less

94 points Wine Spectator: Floral with berry plum and sandalwood aromas as well as a hint of vanilla. Full-bodied with firm tannins and vanilla berry and plum flavors. This is dense layered and balanced. Best after 2012. 3000 cases made. 93 points The Wine Advocate: Lisinis 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a racy sleek wine loaded with super-ripe dark fruit. This is a fairly immediate style for this producer yet the wine is highly pleasurable for the integrity of its fruit and its round enveloping personality. Clean minerally notes frame the finish giving the wine a lovely sense of balance and proportion. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolaia, from a small old-vine parcel on the estate, floats onto the palate with endless layers of perfumed fruit. Deceptively medium in body, the Ugolaia possesses remarkable depth. Sweet pine, menthol, red cherries and spices meld together seamlessly on the long finish. With time in the glass, the wine gains more volume as the fruit emerges and the bouquet becomes even more expansive. This is a gorgeous Brunello from Lisini. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024. Saturated ruby-red. Red cherry, brown spices, mocha and minerals on the complex, deep nose. Silky on entry, then rich and layered in the middle, with darker cherry, spice and mineral flavors given definition by lively acidity. The unctuous fruit suggests old vines, and the sweet, lush, broad finish indicates very good winemaking as well. Firm acidity gives this a pristine quality and a deceptively light mouthfeel. Strawberry pie on the nose, with a hint of coffee. Full-bodied, with soft, ve...
