Intensely Chocolaty on the nose with a spicy, tropical fruit/ orange peel tone and perfumed, brambly, juniper scented blackberry fruit. A bit chunky and even chewy in the mouth but with refreshingly raw tannins and nicely balanced acidity. The wine is a touch drying at this stage but is well balanced with a blackberry candy note on the mid-palate that contrasts with bitter chocolate, espresso and slightly medicinal notes lurking in the fruit. This feels a bit better than it tastes at this point but it can certainly improve with some age. 89pts

Dark fruit nose with a little bit of clay and earth. The flavors are tart, full of chocolate and ripe raspberry, juicy and thick, with good spice and acidity. A fresh and approachable wine with some drying tannins.

This Syrah is a blend of Syrah from three vineyards - Stophlman and White Hawk vineyards in Santa Barbara County with a bit of Teldeschi Dry Creek Valley. The wine is fruiter and jammier than the 2005 Eaglepoint Ranch Syrah. The Syrah from the Stophlman and Teldeschi vineyards were both co-fermented with 3% Viognier to enhance the aromatics and help with color fixation. The wine is a bright, opaque ruby/violet with ruby rim color. The wine has a clean pronounced intensity nose with aromas of black olive, jam, raspberry, baking spices(clove, allspice), orange Peel, mineral, dark cherry, earth, smoke, hint of coffee/espresso, vanilla, violets, and pomegranate. The wine has a tart medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, medium soft, fine-grained tannins with medium+ intensity flavors matching the aromas, and espresso with orange Peel on the medium+ finish. Analysis: alcohol: 14.1% pH: 3.78 TA: 6.4 grams/liter
