Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Lingenfelderrsquo;s bird-label Riesling reminds one how close the Pfalz is to Alsace, with a gentle breadth of dry fruit built on a mountain of minerality. This vintage feels drier than usual, but itrsquo;s still the sort of wine that would quickly disappear at dinner parties.

Tasted immediately prior to bottling, the 2007 Bird label Riesling was highly aromatic, boasting hints of lime, apple, peach and dried spices. Itrsquo;s on the sweet, ripe side with more than 20g/l residual sugar, but admirably balanced by sharp acids. Delicious now, but should last through 2015.

Rainer Lingenfelder makes his Bird Label Riesling by blending grapes from his own estate with top quality purchased fruit. The resulting wine is a semi-dry Riesling with a very subtle peach flavor, complex mineral notes and balanced with mild acidity. You will like it because it is a high quality, food-friendly wine. But you will love it because, in the words of importer Terry Thiese: ldquo;Itrsquo;s CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP!rdquo;

There isnrsquo;t another Riesling on the market within miles of this quality at this price.

Brilliance and clarity highlight this Riesling, whose peach, grapefruit and spice notes are brought into facus against the vivid structure. Subtle, lingering finish. Drink now through 2006.
