Saint Bock. Saint-Denis, Montreal. May 2013. Dark red, deep flavour, hint of fruit. Great choice.

Inexpensive ($5.49), everyday wine. Purple color and the aromas are full of plum and cherry. The flavors include plum, red berry, with a bit of oak. The taste is slightly sweet with hint of spice. It has a moderate amount of acidity which balances nicely with the sweetness.

Thin, and a bit grapey with a narrow band of prune-like fruit and an acid burst. Not the best Lindemans' shiraz.

Of all the least expensive Australian shiraz wines, this one seems to have the best body (although still a little on the weak side). It lingers fairly well, with hints of plum, berries, and a little spice. A vibrant fruit driven style shiraz, which shows soft fruit flavors and a touch of liquorice and spice. Careful oak maturation adds structure and integrates balanced tannins with a subtle savory oak finish. Definitely a best-buy as purchased at Safeway for $6 (as a 6 pack).

This wine is crimson red in color and shows excellent depth. Aromatic with notes of blueberry and blackberry along with rich stewed plum are balanced with integrated vanillin oak. Many have already begun to enjoy the virtues of Australian Shiraz (nèe Syrah). For a change of pace from the fruit-laden Rosemount bottling or as a perfect introduction to the genre, Lindemans Bin 50 is an ideal choice. The 2001 manages to capture the fruity intensity of the grape while balancing it with moderate oak and tannin. Perfect with anything grilled.

Concentrated plum and ripe berry flavors balanced by the typical pepper and spicy characteristics of Shiraz.

On the light side, this refreshing red exhibits ripe cherry and spice flavors, finishing with open texture. Drink now.

Grapey and sappy, with almost candied cherry fruit, this is a young wine made to be consumed young. Try chilling it to give the cherry and chocolate flavors greater focus and quaff it with burgers this summer.

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate #137 (Oct 2001) The monumental 1999 Vigna d'Alceo is a 20,000-bottle cuvee of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Sangiovese aged in oak. It boasts an exceptionally provocative nose of liquid minerals, graphite, plums, creme de cassis, and cherry liqueur. It is fabulously concentrated yet remarkably light on its feet, with medium to full body, sweet tannin, and layer upon layer of flavor nuances. There is plenty of glycerin in this rich, but neither heavy nor overbearing effort. This is a thrilling tour de force! However, it requires cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025. Bravo! These were RP's comments on the 99 vintage and although the '03 may not garner 99 points, it is one of the finest vintages the estate has produced
