Lindemans Merlot 2005
Winemaker comments by Abe Roussow Colour Bright cherry red. Nose Blueberry and dark chocolate combine to give a rich aromatic bouquet. Palate The flavour of the wine is stacked full of ripe delicious fruit flavours, raspberry and licorice combine to produce an impression of the sunny region in which the grapes were grown. The grape expresses itself in the wine with the characteristic softness and fullness for which Merlot is known.
LINDEMANS® wines promise more than the partnering of quality grapes and craftsmanship. Every wine also contains the spirit and passion of our founder - Dr Henry J Lindeman.
A good solid easy to drink Merlot from South Africa that was a very good buy. I like the SA reds and Lindemans is a dependable brand that can be found in most stores.
I prefer Cabernet Sauvignon and normally don't like Merlot -the only one to date I have liked was from Hogue (because it tasted more like a cab). We got this bottle as a party gift, so I gave it a try and... not bad! To me it tastes predominantly of black cherry & plum, and dark chocolate which provides an appealing slight bitterness. Again, not bad -for a free bottle of wine.
