Vintage after vintage Lindemans Bin 65 is one of the most reliable inexpensive chardonnays around. The rsquo;95 vintage in Austrailia was an extremely short crop , which usually means the higher-priced wines get the best grapes, and the inexpensive wines suffer in quality. In the case of Bin 65, Lindemans has managed to maintain a fine level of quality for the price mdash; a remarkable achievement in such a vintage. The rsquo;95 has the typical clean and fresh Bin 65 style, with flavors based on chardonnay grapes rather than oak-influence. Itrsquo;s long and smooth, with an appealing leesy, butternut scented finish.
Light and open-textured, with pretty pear and citrus flavors that hover nicely on the deft finish. Drink now.
Green-gold. Smoky orange. melon and peach aromas are accompanied by deeper hints of honey and spun sugar. Broad and fleshy, with deep orchard and citrus flavors and a late note of floral honey. This is impressively round and rich for the price, and shows good finishing fruit and persistence. I've had plenty of $50 Chardonnays that are less satisfying than this wine.
Deep gold in color, with nut, peach and overt floral aromas. Bright and tropical on the palate, with a soft, almost oily feel; shows its alcohol on the finish.
Youthful, with a cascade of spicy fig and melon flavors keeping it lively to the finish. Has considerably more going for it than most value-priced Chardonnays, and the case production suggests it shouldnrsquo;t be hard to find. Drink now.
A perennial ldquo;best buy, rdquo; the 1998 is meritorious. The winersquo;s light to medium straw color is accompanied by a delightful bouquet of citrusy, honeyed Chardonnay fruit with no oak in evidence. Crisp, medium-bodied, fresh, and lively, it should be enjoyed over the next 12 months.
Soft and flavorful, here's a straightforward Chardonnay with pretty fruit-salad character that echoes nicely on the smooth finish. Easy to drink, and at a palatable price.
