Lincourt Vineyards Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills 2008

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Sweet notes of underbrush, lightly toasty spices and wild cherry greets the nose with a soft floral top note. This is lovely on entry with small yet ever so slightly austere tannins offering a nice touch of bite on entry then falling back into the rich blanket of spicy, dark cherry and black raspberry toned fruit on the palate. The wine is medium to medium full bodied but the acidity keeps it light on its feet. The back end is lightly spicy with a rich dark soil tone under a soft layer of baking spice. The acid helps to drive the finish and freshens up the red fruited finale. 91pts

There’s an atmosphere of casual grace at Lincourt that invites you to kick back and relax. But don’t be fooled – we are serious about our wines and are extremely focused on our mission of creating wines that showcase the ideal grape growing conditions of Santa Barbara County! Founded in 1996 by Bill Foley, Lincourt is a producer of ultra premium wines from the Santa Ynez Valley. A long time wine enthusiast, Bill has been particularly enchanted with the wines of Burgundy. In 1994, when he and his wife Carol relocated their family to Santa Barbara, he discovered that the potential to produce some of America’s most distinguished versions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay lay just miles north of his home. Bill and Carol named their new winery Lincourt, in homage to their two daughters, Lindsay and Courtney. The Lincourt winery is located in the heart of Santa Barbara wine country, on Alamo Pintado Road in the Santa Ynez Valley. Originally a dairy farm, the property retains the rural charm and simplicity of an earlier era. The quaint tasting room is located in the former farmhouse, a 1926 Sears Craftsman kit home. The barns have been converted to a winery and barrel rooms, and equipped to allow for handcrafted, premium winemaking. Great fruit, dedicated winemakers, an incredible climate and a serene setting - Lincourt provides the best of Santa Barbara wine country. Read less

Lean raspberry nose. Thin bright chalky mineral leaves. Almost tastes Australian. Lots of oak, bit of a sour finish.

Absolutely fantastic. This is a pinot with a backbone. Nose of black cherry and oak. Flavor follows a similar formula with balanced acidity and a pronounced, but appropriate amount of tannin leading to a pleasant and well structured wine.

The 2008 Lincourt Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blended wine from our meticulously maintained, estate vineyards within the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. This fruit was hand-harvested and sorted in the vineyard prior to arrival at the winery. The clusters were then carefully destemmed to keep the berries intact. Jack stems were removed before the fruit was transferred to small, stainless steel, open-top fermenters. The must (juice and skins) underwent a cold-soak for four days prior to inoculation with cultured yeast and was then gently punched down for 14-24 days. After primary (alcoholic) fermentation was complete, the new wine was drained and the skins were gently pressed. These two fractions were then settled separately and introduced to barrels
