Lincourt Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills Sta. Rita Hills Steel 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

A wonderful vintage the Lincourt 2004 Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County, incorporates fruit from three select vineyards. The majority of the blend was sourced from the Santa Maria Valley with world-class fruit coming from the Bien Nacido and Solomon Hills vineyards. The balance of the blend comes from Rancho Santa Rosa, located in the Santa Rita Hills AVA. Altogether the three vineyards have created an extremely complex wine with layers of aromatics and an intriguing structure. Classic winemaking techniques further enhanced the Chardonnay, as the grapes were whole cluster pressed, barrel fermented and aged for 11 months in 60-gallon French oak barrels. Resting sur-lie, the wine completed full malolactic fermentation, adding a nice rich and developed structure. The Lincourt 2004 Chardonnay is a distinct and complex wine with an amazing fruit-driven nature. In the bouquet aromas of mandarine orange, pineapple, pink grapefruit and mango are infused with notes of honeysuckle, vanilla, hazelnut and caramel. A clean wine, crisp acidity is coupled with round and creamy textures in the mouth.

There’s an atmosphere of casual grace at Lincourt that invites you to kick back and relax. But don’t be fooled – we are serious about our wines and are extremely focused on our mission of creating wines that showcase the ideal grape growing conditions of Santa Barbara County! Founded in 1996 by Bill Foley, Lincourt is a producer of ultra premium wines from the Santa Ynez Valley. A long time wine enthusiast, Bill has been particularly enchanted with the wines of Burgundy. In 1994, when he and his wife Carol relocated their family to Santa Barbara, he discovered that the potential to produce some of America’s most distinguished versions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay lay just miles north of his home. Bill and Carol named their new winery Lincourt, in homage to their two daughters, Lindsay and Courtney. The Lincourt winery is located in the heart of Santa Barbara wine country, on Alamo Pintado Road in the Santa Ynez Valley. Originally a dairy farm, the property retains the rural charm and simplicity of an earlier era. The quaint tasting room is located in the former farmhouse, a 1926 Sears Craftsman kit home. The barns have been converted to a winery and barrel rooms, and equipped to allow for handcrafted, premium winemaking. Great fruit, dedicated winemakers, an incredible climate and a serene setting - Lincourt provides the best of Santa Barbara wine country. Read less

Bright, overt and surprisingly bold, this Chardonnay offers up a complex mix of apples, pears, lemons and guavas. The palate is broad, but crisp and lively thanks to the great natural acidity.

Winemaker Notes - For centuries Chardonnay has been vinified in oak barrels. At Lincourt, we use this traditional winemaking technique for most of our Chardonnays. But what if your vineyards are capable of growing grapes so delicious and packed with personality, they just beg to be fermented, aged and bottled without the influence of wood? Our 2009 Steel Chardonnay is just such a wine. The nose is bright, fresh, and lively with apples, pears and lemons. The palate is crisp and laser-like in its focus. The finish is long, lean and racy.
