External Reviews for Limerick Lane Zinfandel Russian River Valley
A burly red that shows a distinct sense of place, with just enough polish. Eclectic aromas of currant and blackberry mix with spice cake notes and briary and complex flavors of smoky pepper beef and licorice. The tannins are big but ripe. Drink now through 2022. 150 cases made.
Black fruit, cedar, new leather, smoke and tobacco meld together in the 2012 Zinfandel 1910 Block. This mixed-blacks block, with its old vines and dollops of Alicante Bouschet, Pelousin, Negrette and Petite Sirah, confers structure, darkness and power, all of which abound in the 2012. The 2012 has more than enough structure to drink well for several decades.
The 2012 Zinfandel Block 1910, also aged in neutral wood for 16 months, tips the scales at a lofty 15.3% alcohol, but that component is unnoticeable. A field blend (dominated by Zinfandel) from 100+-year-old vines, it exhibits rich, briery, black cherry, strawberry, pepper, incense and underbrush characteristics, a big, spicy, powerful, muscular, full-bodied mouthfeel, a voluptuous, lush texture, and no hard edges. Consume it over the next 5–6 years.
