Lieb Family Cellars Bridge Lane Merlot Long Island

Winemaker's Notes:

Lieb Cellars is an 84-acre sustainably farmed vineyard located on the North Fork of Long Island, 80 miles east of New York City. Lieb was founded in 1992 and debuted our first line of reserve wines in 1999 under the direction of Australian-born winemaker Russell Hearn, with the Pinot Blanc and the Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine quickly gaining national recognition. The next year, we opened our first tasting room on the North Fork of Long Island in Mattituck, NY. As wineries do when they become more popular, Lieb Cellars began to expand production, and, in 2004, introduced our Bridge Lane series: lighter, fruitier “every day” wines at more affordable price points. In 2012, Lieb Cellars opened a second tasting room on the rustic, rural Oregon Road in Cutchogue, NY, and merged with Premium Wine Goup, the custom crush facility where were produce our wine. Lieb Cellars East Hampton was opened in 2014, establishing Lieb as the first and only North Fork vineyard with a tasting and retail space in the Hamptons. Now, in 2014, we have expanded our Bridge Lane series to include “alternative” formats, with the wines being offered in 3L boxes and 20L disposable kegs (both “firsts” for New York). Our wines are being widely distributed to venues in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Newport, Chicago and Shanghai, China. Producing two private labels for celebrity-chef Tom Colicchio’s Craft restaurants and the Topping Rose House, Lieb Cellars has evolved into a diverse winery and a trusted name in the wine world.

A Bordeaux style blend of 88% Merlot, 7% Cab Sauvignon, 3% Cab Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot make our second label Merlot quite an interesting wine. Aged 10 months in 15% new French oak barrels, this wine is one of the biggest Bridge Lane wines we have ever produced. A deep purple color and dark fruit aromas of plum, blueberry, and blackberry entice the nose. A rich mid-palate is complimented by a finish of integrated tannins and balanced acidity. This is still a great every-day red that will pair with everything from grilled meats to pizza or pasta. - Winery ** Only 8 in Stock **

We've been producing our elegant reserve Merlot since 1997. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels our 2004 Merlot shows a deep garnet color with hints of purple. An enticing nose of mulberry pine and cocoa powder is followed by refined notes of sweet fruits. The palate is rich with plum black cherry and cedar. A smooth and supple mouthfeel is made complete with soft round tannins. While delicious to drink now it should age well for many years. Winemaker's notes
