Librandi Ciro' Rosso 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Lovely nose full of apple fruit topped with notes of hawthorn, cream and light floral notes. Light and crisp in the mouth yet with lovely intensity of yellow apple fruit up front and flavors that allude to sweetness. This is round, yet not soft with fairly intense fruit flavors draped over a lean framework that powers through on the finish delivering refreshing quartzy mineral flavors. This is really quite attractive and nicely balanced as an everyday drinker; complex enough to be interesting and yet simply delicious. 87pts

This area is naturally suited to wine growing: the soil is predisposed for vines and its happy geographic position, close to the sea with the Sila Mountains at its back, is such that it guarantees an excellent contrast between day-and-night time temperatures. Labrandi has grown grapes for four generations and in the 50s began botling as well. Read less

If you ever wondered why people meant when they described a wine tasting of hay, we'll drink this. But yummy hay.

A nice light wine with a bit of sweetness and effervescence, but not much body or complexity.

Couldn’t get a fix on this wine; a bit mysterious and a bit deviant. Made me go back for a curious second sip which was a little rugged and harsh around the corners of the mouth. A fighter.

Very good red wine from a winery raised in 1950, one of the most important in Kalabria.Spicy aroma, pepper, confiture and plum taste.

Pungent spicy nose with almost rubbery undertones which turn to smokiness as the wine breathes. Nice sparkling acidity and low, smooth tannins. Spice and smokiness follow through with some nice red fruit/cherry. Very pleasant, excellent value.

Brilliant lemon-green in color, this wine displays ripe aromas of peach, lemon and orange citrus and a hint of fresh Mediterranean herbs.

A bit of an odd duck in the world of rosé, the Librandi Rosato is made from 100% Gaglioppo, a robust native grape, and is darker in color than one would expect. Dark, heavy rosés allow Italian wine-drinkers to chill a wine that is almost red, to help alleviate the summer heat. Great with appetizers, salads, and don't forget dessert - try it with vanilla ice cream or cheesecake.

Offering a varied palette of Mediterranean and tropical aromas such as ripe peach, pineapple, cedar and bitter orange, followed by delicate notes of Mediterranean herbs and flowers. This wine is fresh in the mouth, with a crisp minerality following the juicy fruit flavors. A pleasant acidity lingers on the finish with subtle hints of toasted almonds.

A weighty rosé, featuring firm, spicy black cherry notes backed by hints of game and wild herb in the finish. Gaglioppo. Drink now.

Here's a well structured and creamy rosé from Calabria, southern Italy, that opens with a bright pink color and enticing aromas of raspberry and cranberry jelly. Thanks to that extra density, you could pair this wine with roast chicken or pork chops.
