Libanon Château Musar White Witte Wijn 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

"From Lebanon, the name Chateau Musar is synonymous with high quality Bordeaux style wines that age impeccably. The winemaker, Gaston Hochar, decided for 2000 that his crops were large enough to make the consumer’s dream: a second label. Second labelings are typically high quality wines made from some of the same vineyards and wines that don’t go into the more expensive blend. Comprised of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, and Cinsault, this is a beautifully approachable, excellent example of what amazing wines are coming from this area. "

Created in 1930 in the cellar of an old 17th century castle, Château Musar is as much the work of a family as the living testimony of all the civilisations that have tread its soil. After a long stay in France, Gaston Hochar returned to Lebanon and created Château Musar in the cellars of the old 'Mzar' castle in Ghazir, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. What began as a hobby soon became a passion; a passion inspired by an initial encounter with renowned viticulturist Ronald Barton while he was stationed in Lebanon during the Second World War. The family's love for wine grew and in 1959, after completing his oenology diploma in Bordeaux, the eldest son, Serge, entered the business. Some call him the magician, the man behind this extraordinary wine. His response is that he only seeks is to translate what nature intended. Serge's younger brother Ronald, named after the late Barton, took over Château Musar's marketing and finance departments in 1962. Read less

Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Christmas day 2010 Cost $88.00 Au Nose: If you did not know better, you would disregard this wine straight away. However decant the wine, wait 2 or 3 hours and the wine opens into a wine that would be hard in a blind tasting not to pick as Bordeaux. This is a fine wine.

Garnet/ ruby color, nose petroleum with nail polish hints, palate confirms the nose but with a nice texture that emerges at the end to make all stick together, wonder if this wine will age well.

Shinny, well preserved and transparent red color. The nose is aromatic with orange peel, matured red fruits. On the pallet, the first contact is nice but instead of increasing aromas and tannins in the mouth, the bouquet remains at a low level. The bouquet is oxydised but has not reached a level of rejection or appealing matured aromas. To sum it up, the wine is medium bodied and I remained searching for pleasures that did not show up.

The most meaningful wine to come out of Lebanon. Here's a full-bodied, unique Bordeaux blend that does wonders for a London Broil.
