What to Expect

"Black and bitter" in Italian, not surprisingly Negroamaro has origins in the Southern Italy's Puglia region and is an important grape both on its own and as a blending grape. It contributes a rich, slightly rustic mouthfeel to a finished wine imbued with a slightly burnt, earthy quality that accentuates deep, roasted plum and mocha toned fruit.

Winemakers Notes

The Falvo brothers, previously owners of Avignonesi, the Montepulciano-based producer renowned for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Vin Santo, bought the Li Veli estate in 1999. The first vintage was 2000, and the quality of the wine confirmed to Ettore Falvo, the director of winemaking, the potential of the Salento peninsula for the production of top quality wines. With the 2007 and subsequent vintages, the Flavo family brought in their winemaker from Avignonesi, Paolo Trappolini, as they felt that they weren’t getting the freshness or richness they wanted in the wines.
