Lewis Cellars Chardonnay Napa Valley 2009
Crafted from some of the oldest Dutton Ranch plantings in the Russian River AVA, our 2009 Sonoma Chardonnay is loaded with character. Similar to the cool weather that prevailed late in the 2008 growing season, the 2009 crop benefitted from long ripening times developing full maturity and well-defined flavors. A citrus menagerie of tangerine, orange rind and lemon cream pie blends with blossoms, honeycomb and floral spice. Loads of ripe citrus fruit are tethered by lively, natural acidity for a brilliant combination of breadth and balance.
In 1992, Debbie and Randy Lewis established a small family winery with their son Dennis. Total production is approximately 9,000 cases annually of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah. We are literally hands-on in every aspect of vineyard management, winemaking, sales and distribution, and we thrive on this challenge and the relationships we cultivate in the process. It is our continuing goal to create world class wines.
Deep yellow straw color in the glass. Strong hints of impending oak on the nose. Palate confirms oak--quite buttery. However, then comes some citrus flavors--lime. Good touch of acid makes this, to me, a good wine with food. The Mrs., however, enjoyed it better as she was polishing off her glass after dinner which consisted of grilled chicken, mashed potatoes with pumpkin, and asparagus sautéed with shallots.
