Lewis Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve 2005
2005 Lewis Cellars Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is a broad-shouldered blend of 93% Cabernet and 7% Cabernet Franc, crafted from Pritchard Hill, Calistoga, Rutherford and Oak Knoll hillside vineyards. The nose is saturated with blackberry and sweet oak spice, tinged with toffee and chocolate. On entry the wine is brooding, tightly packed with fleshy fruit and sinewy texture that gathers richness and length on the palate with satisfying, fine-grained tannins. 2,200 cases produced. Firm, rich and chewy, this is tight, concentrated and focused, with a layered, complex mix of loamy currant, cedary oak, sage and wild berry, gaining depth and length on the finish, where the flavors are deep and persistent. Best from 2009 through 2015.J.L. Vol. 4, No. 16 | April 23, 2008 . This is a California wine.
In 1992, Debbie and Randy Lewis established a small family winery with their son Dennis. Total production is approximately 9,000 cases annually of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah. We are literally hands-on in every aspect of vineyard management, winemaking, sales and distribution, and we thrive on this challenge and the relationships we cultivate in the process. It is our continuing goal to create world class wines.
A Gold Medal Wine Club selection. 96 Points, Connoisseurs’ Guide – “As deep and defined and impressively structured as any wine in this issue, Lewis adds to its recent string of show-stopping Chardonnay successes with a Cabernet that stands with the best. A big, highly extracted wine whose concentration and sheer sense of scale are matched by few, it shows layer upon layer of cassis, creamy oak, cola, chocolate, coffee and loamy soil qualities that outdistance its ample young tannins and handily buffer its scant edge of heat. Downright enthralling, yet only a shadow of what it is bound to become, it deserves seeking out.” 93 Points, Wine Spectator – “Firm, rich and chewy, this is tight, concentrated and focused, with a layered, complex mix of loamy currant, cedary oak, sage and wild berry, gaining depth and length on the finish, where the flavors are deep and persistent.”
