Food Pairings for Leth Roter Veltliner Wagram Scheiben
External Reviews for Leth Roter Veltliner Wagram Scheiben
Forgotten in the cellars of the Leth winery, the 1990 vintage of Roter Veltliner was rediscovered one day, lucky for us. The cellar managers assessed each bottle, poured off the liquid into a large demi-john where the flavors could mix and mingle, then re-bottled and corked and sent off. With certain capacity to continue in the cellar, this is complex and enjoyable now. Luxuriant unfiltered honey apricot notes blended with wild yellow flowers, on the palate one finds singing acidity married to herbal notes carried on broadly textured body. Roter Veltliner, a varietal named for the rose color of its skins, is indigenous to Austria, at home on the loess soils of Leth vineyards. When yields are reduced, it has historically been capable of extraordinary, ageworthy wines.
