Les Vins de Vienne Saint-Joseph Saint-Joseph 2001

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £10 from a new website called www.cellartrade.co.uk Saint Joseph is an appellation created in 1956[although wine production in the area goes back to before the Romans] for red and white wines [though 90% are red] from 6 communes[extended to 26 in 1994] around the village of Tournon on the west bank of the Rhone river opposite Tain/Hermitage on the east bank. The wines were originally called Saint Joseph by Jesuit monks in the 17th century. My bottle[ 100%syrah] comes from the negociant business of Les Vins de Vienne.I started the bottle last night with my supper of roast chicken. There is plenty of a clear blackcurrant, blackberry and plum style fruit with a hint of pepper or spice on the finish and soft tannins.I enjoyed it and it was a good match for the roast chicken.
