Les Vignerons de Buzet Red Bordeaux Blend Buzet Baron d'Ardeuil 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

Color: Dark Garnet. Nose: Upon opening, oak and strong vegetable note (My wife says it smells like scallion). After 1 hour of decanting, stronger aroma of vanilla, cassis and dried cherry finally emerges. Palate: Cassis, blueberry and dried red fruit flavors with faint hint of tobacco. Angular mouth feel with relatively harsh tannins. Still fairly alcoholic. Body: Light to medium with minimum structure. Finish: Rather short. Mostly dried red fruits, peppery and notes of drying tannins. This wine may need 1-2 years to allow the alochol read more... to mellow a bit further. 2000 Baron D’ Ardeuil Vieilles Vignes is produced by the Buzet Vinegrowers Cooperative that oversees over 1700 hectares of vineyard. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Gascon. It is a blend of 24% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Cabernet Franc. After fermentation, this wine is aged in 30% new oak barrels for 18 months before bottling

Gascony is bordered by the Ocean, the Pyrenees and the Garonne. At the heart of this magical region, a river flows lazily through undulating hills that are home to the unique Buzet wine region. Here you'll find a people whose single passion is to make wine. A wine made with patience and intelligence. Above all, a wine that gives pleasure to the palate. It has been enjoyed by Man ever since he learned how to make wine in this land of benevolent sunshine. The soils, grape varieties and climate elegantly complement the skills of the winemakers in the twenty-seven communes in the appellation area. Nearby, the immense Landes forest brings its ocean scents to the delighted vine branches. Two thousand years of history have sculpted the land, up to the day in 1953 when Buzet's winemakers decided to join forces to give their win e the place it deserves in the range of wines produced in France. Twenty years later, they were awarded AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) status and have since been served in all the best restaurants in Europe. As a result of the talent of the winegrowers, the skills of the oenologists and cellar-masters and the magical nature of its soils, Buzet has become a truly great wine. Two thousand hectares of vineyards generously produce 13 million bottles for keen wine-lovers. The wine is made at two extraordinarily modern vinification sites. One is in Buzet, the other in Espiens, on both banks of the Baïse. There are also two ageing cellars, which house over 4500 barrels, gently instilling a thousand flavours into this great wine that over 120,000 visitors come and taste ever year at the winery and in the cellars. The Buzet Winemakers' winery has now become the Lot-et-Garonne department's most-visited tourist site. So why don't you come and join in the legend: come and taste the Buzet, come and enjoy it ! A consistent superstar. I've occasionally had "corked" and other similar thoughts on some bottles after opening the wine, but after 20 mins of breathing, the bottle is fine. The 2000 vintage is drinking really well now (2007) and I was very disappointed with the 2003. Try to get your hands on a 2000 or look for the 2005 which should be in the country soon.

Extremely rich Bordeaux Blend. Thick fruit flavors with good tannins. This really won't taste good unless you decant it for an hour - but it's absolutely worth the extra effort! Very good for the price.

I'd like the chance to change my opinion on this wine. The one bottled I've had was corked, so I set it aside for cooking. Three weeks of not-quite-closed on the counter later the friend who'd vetoed it as corked (I didn't even taste it then) picked it up by accident, tried it, and liked it.

Very rich jammy fruits, good tannins and a decent finish. Let stand before serving or decant.

Very deep, dark and rich. Brooding a lot of earthy and herbal characters but still with a dark fruit background. Definitely needs to be decanted beforehand.

Primarily Merlot, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Very Bordeaux-like and thoroughly impressive for the price--this wine is a superior value.

This is primarily Merlot, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. A wine for Bordeaux fans and quite an impressive one at that, this is an excellent value.
