Les Vaucorneilles Cuvee Nathan Touraine Mesland 2005

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a stand at the London France Show back in January that was selling Loire valley wines [www.amandaswines.co.uk] and I paid around a tenner for it.Touraine Mesland is a sub-appellation within the larger Touraine appellation for red, white and rose wines from six communes around the village of Mesland. This is located on the north bank of the Loire river about halfway between the towns of Amboise and Blois. My bottle was made by Domaine Les Vaucorneilles and is a blend of a third each cabernet franc, gamay and malbec [called cot in this area ].It is not oaked. I started my bottle last night with my bacon pasta bake and I did enjoy it.There is some fairly intense blackcurrant, blackberry and licorice style fruit with more than a hint of pepper or spice on the finish. It was full bodied but fairly tannic to the extent that it was a better wine today after spending the night open on the table.
