Les Jamelles Vin de Pays d'Oc Pinot Noir 2016

Winemaker's Notes:

This is another example of the way in which Catherine Delaunay has transferred her family know-how to the South of France. This wine, which is produced in limited quantities, is quite different from preconceived ideas people generally have about Pinot Noir wines when the variety is grown away from its homeland. Serve with traditional food such as shepherd's pie, gratins, stews, grilled meats, rib of beef, steak au poivre or loin of lamb.

Les Jamelles are wines produced by husband and wife winemaking team Catherine and Laurent Delauney in the Languedoc-Rousillon region of France. Though originally hailing from Burgundy, they were attracted to the region for its versatility and charm. The fruit is sourced from several growers throughout the Pays d’Oc working in conjunction with the winery. The wines are produced in a wide variety of reds, whites, rosés and sparkling, with an additional line of organically grown wines. Their “Rare and Antique” collection is produced from grapes specific to the region, including Rolle, Bourboulenc, Macabeu, Alicante, Carignan, and Cðt (Malbec).  Read less

Cheap fruity pinot - fairly plain, but easy drinking. Very light, a touch of tannin - not burgundian, but very fruit forward - strawberry and red cherry.

Appearance: Dark colour, with ruby tints.Nose: Scents of red and black berries mixed with floral notes, together with hints of delicate wood and vanilla.Taste: On the palate, this wine is complex, rich, long and fat. It displays aromas of crushed black fruits (blackberries, blackcurrants, cherries) and jam. The tannins are plump and well-integrated. Unlike many Pinot Noirs grown in the Pays d'Oc, this wine is not dominated by heaviness or an excessive over-ripeness. - Winery
