Les Domaines Paul Mas Coteaux du Languedoc Château Paul Mas Clos des Mûres 2005

Member Review by Sylvain B:

Dark ruby color with violet shine. This Clos des Mûres has a complex nose with blackcurrent aroma, of violets and blackberries, with a subtle note of cocoa and spices. Embellish with a beautiful acidity that gives equilibrium to fleshy tannins. A full bodied red, firm and generous, silky, with long and inspiring flavors, leaving traces of pepper which adds notes of leather, prune and thyme as well as light notes of wood - liquorice - torrefaction. Red meats will simply not believe it. Of course that a few years in a cellar would permit to mellow a little more, but otherwise, a few minutes in a carafe would do it the greater good. Tasted on July 7th 2011.

For over 170 years, González Byass has committed itself to research and quality for its range of products. Three of them particularly stand out: Tío Pepe -world sales leader in fino sherries; Soberano -the brandy leader in Spain, its country of origin; and Lepanto-with its singular bottle, a design from the La Granja Royal Crystal Factory. It is the 80s when González Byass chooses to start developing some still wines, what brought about the presence of the group in Spain's main Designations of Origin through the Beronia, Vilarnau, Finca Constancia and Finca Moncloa wineries. In addition, González Byass acquires "Chinchón de la Alcoholera", the only anisette that is 100% distilled. In 2003, González Byass creates the company Summa, taking a step ahead in the world of beverage distribution. In 2004, Grupo VIPS develops a new restaurant concept through the alliance with a great brand: Tío Pepe. At Tío Pepe restaurants, traditional Spanish food is prepared and served in a modem environment. Nowadays, our firm has opened 8 Tío Pepe restaurants in Madrid, where clients, obviously, can also enjoy the spirit of this great wine. In line with its expansion strategy in the wine-growing sector, González Byass acquires in 2008 all the shares of Vinas del Vero, a landmark winery in Aragon's Somontano Designation of Origin. With this purchase, González Byass establishes itself as a leading player in Spain's wine-growing industry, with more than 1,844 hectares of own vineyards and a total output of 49 million bottles -including both wines and brandies.
