Les Astries St.Emilion Grand Cru 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Porthos Insider Scoop: One of Bordeaux's most sought after Garagiste (Bordeaux for Cult!) wines produced by famed winemaker Jonathan Maltus at his Chateau Tessier Grand Cru Estate. Hardly ever available outside of the auction market in England and France, this extremely rare Bordeaux is: Single Vineyard Designate Only 250 cases produced: for perspective, Margaux and Laffite are normally 20,000+ cases Huge relative bargain at $150/bottle: comparable Garagistes selling for $500+ today Delicious style guaranteed to thrill American collectors = you dont have to wait a decade to taste the fruit! Tastes: This exquisite wine, shown in an En Primeur form, is probably the highlight of Maltus's extensive range. Opulent, deep-pocketed fruit shines out over a gorgeous clean mineral base. Huge color, high extraction of black fruits, totally hedonistic palate but almost Saint-Estphe grip on the finish, fresh and very, very long. It is not just expressive of the terroir, but of the foundations of Bordeaux's most beautiful town. Only 250 cases of the wine are made each year and are for limited release. About Chteau Teyssier: Situated in the heart of the renowned Bordeaux vineyards at Saint Emilion, the estate is a Saint Emilion Grand Cru that dates back to 1714. The vineyard went through fluctuations in its fortune over the years but, with the arrival in the early 1990s of Jonathan and Lyn Maltus, a rigorous, enthusiastic program of renovation was implemented. Bringing the technological advancements of the new world to the heart of the old, they introduced a new, ambitious team, constructed two state-of-the art wineries and a modern barrel-cellar and tripled the size of the vineyard.

Big flavors of red fruit from beginning to end make this bordeaux pleasant to sip with or without food. Smooth all the way with a lasting finish. A tad of oak, balanced tannins, round this nice bordeaux very well.
