Les Arums de Lagrange 2011

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

Smoky, with bay, tobacco and briary followed by roasted fig and mulled plum notes, which all meld through the medium-bodied finish. Approachable now. Drink now through 2016. -JM Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2009 Les Fiefs de Lagrange 750ml

In 1824 the total production was 120 barrels (12 000 cases). In 1842, the ex-Home Secretary to King Louis-Philippe, Count Duchatel, left his mark on the property and the Médoc by introducing a drainage system in the vineyard. The Count brought the annual production up to 300 barrels. This was a golden age for Lagrange, with the famous 1855 classification awarding the property the title of Third Classified Growth. The beginning of the 20th century was much less glorious as the economic conditions deteriorated. Despite several changes in ownership the yields were lower and of lesser quality. A decline in business meant the estate had to be broken up : from 280 hectares (around 700 acres) in1840, the domain had been reduced to 157 hectares (392 acres) by December 1983, when the Japanese group Suntory bought it from the Cendoya family, owners since 1925. Supple, with a nice creamy feel to the plum, fig and blackberry flavors. A light stony edge lends some additional length and definition on the finish.-J.M. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Lagrange St Julien 750ml

The Chateau Lagrange 2011 is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot (the highest percentage of the latter since 2007.) In 2011, there were just four treatments in the vineyard compared to 12 in 2000. It has a deep purple co... Neal Martins Wine Journal. The color is dark with a fruity fresh and ripe nose. Caressing on entry the wine develops very fruity and rather ample for the vintage. Displaying power and energy. Beautiful tasty finish melting with a taste of licorice. Freshness and density are exemplary for the vintage. Jean-Marc Quarin - www.quarin.com

Notes of Bing cherry and crushed blackberry burst from the glass, with just a touch of bittersweet chocolate rounding out the nose. Very primary. Elegant and rather straightforward, lacking some of the complexity found in past vintages. Enjoy on rele... Alex Shaw. An elegant wine, with a lovely balance of blackberry and tobacco flavors and soft, silky tannins. Not a blockbuster, but well proportioned. Best after 1996. -JS Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1990 Les Fiefs de Lagrange 5000ml
