Les Allees de Cantemerle 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"The wine displays a sustained and brilliant color of great depth, with all the elegance of an evening gown. The nose has already evolved and shows black currant and other black fruit aromas. On the palate the wine's tannins are soft and smooth, with a steady balance and a long, fresh finish. Aromas of fruit, tobacco and licorice harmoniously blend with those from the oak, giving rise to flavors which coat the palate without roughness. The overall impression is of a tender and soft wine which has passed through a spirited youth to reveal the elegance typical of Cantemerle's terroir. Harmony and a certain femininity define this wine which demonstrates this property's legendary ability to produce vintages which maintain a potential for great finesse at every stage of their evolution" (Winemaker notes).

Slightly smoky and a touch sweet on the nose with layered notes of balsam, dried meat, dried black raspberry fruit – sweet entry then a bit drying, savory mid-palate, rich and fairly ripe fruit but with a bit of a raw oak edge, nice fruit builds on the finish but the tannins remain a bit obtrusive (87-88)

Enjoyable and friendly, this wine shows pretty currant fruit atop crumbly gravel notes. Relaxed and fleshy, with pencil shaving tannins the mid-palate demonstrates depth and warmth. Save for the special steak dinner, but consider pairing this also with grilled lamb chops. From a 5th Growth Haut-Médoc estate.
