Wonderfully ripe, exuberant and distinctly fresh and high-toned aromas of kirsch and blackberries that display background hints of spice, earth and an interesting floral component. The huge but balanced flavors are even riper but remain fine and pure with superb density of tannins and superb balance. While this too reflects the vintage, it does so with a bit more style and grace than all but the RSV and Clos de la Roche. A great wine by any standard that has so much buried structure that it will be years before its reaches its full potential.

Bright red-ruby. Highly nuanced, extremely ripe aromas of red raspberry, espresso, earth and underbrush. Wonderfully suave on entry, then rich and vibrant in the middle palate, with sharply delineated flavors of raspberry, strawberry, iron and minerals. This has energy in the mouth. Finishes extremely subtle and long, with fine tannins and lovely restrained sweetness. Along with the Clos de la Roche, this is a monument of the vintage.
